Lady Gaga shot her latest video with iPhone Pros.
Let’s study the Behind the Scenes shots she also made available to learn a little bit more.
A closer look at the production of ‘Stupid Love’ music video filming
- Australian director, Daniel Askill lines up behind these two to direct the engagement between the performer and the triple iPhone array.
- “We were shooting everything at 4K for almost all of the takes and would have the top camera film at 24fps with a second camera sitting right underneath the main camera capture at 48fps,” Askill said.
- The triple iPhone11Pro array atop the Steadicam is feeding HD video to the transmitters and the operator’s HD monitor/recorder.
- There is a lot of Teradek gear on board to wirelessly send the HD video to monitors on set.
- Not shown is the amount of artificial light that was used to achieve this lighting effect outdoors.
- NOTE: The camera operator frames Gaga by looking at the HD monitor at the bottom of the rig, not at any of the three iPhones attached to his rig.
Make a low-budget iPhone steadicam
There are some cool takeaways from seeing how a GAGA budget shoot works. In particular, filming with a counter-balanced rig provides stable shots without a gimbal. I made a ROBB budget rig for the iPhone 11 Pro Max back in September to explore this.
