After another incredible year of teaching at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), I am packing up my mobile kits and heading to the West Coast.
From April through June 2026, I will be based in Los Angeles.
This three-month residency is a unique window for me to reconnect with U.S.-based newsrooms, journalism programs, and media faculty. I’m arriving with a suitcase full of fresh case studies, ready-to-adopt syllabi, and a framework for connecting investigative journalism, documentary film, and Visual Media Anthropology.
The 2026 Standard: The 6th Edition is Here
The big news for the spring is the release of the 6th Edition of the Mobile Journalism textbook.
Often called the “Bible of MoJo,” this 2026 University Edition is the most comprehensive update yet. It’s designed specifically for professors to adopt via Vital Source, making it easy for campus bookstores to distribute directly to students.
Whether you are building a new digital storytelling track or upgrading a legacy broadcast curriculum, this edition provides the turnkey “how-to” for the next generation of creators.

Beyond Video: Spatial Computing & Investigative Truth
My recent Master’s research projects and my teaching in Singapore have pushed my practice beyond simple mobile video. I’ve been deep-diving into how investigative journalism meshes with spatial computing.
We are moving into an era where “on-the-ground” reporting meets immersive data and 3D environments. During my LA stay, I’m looking forward to leading workshops that help faculty and students master these high-end visual storytelling techniques using the tools already in their pockets.
Catch Me in Las Vegas (April)
I’ll be kicking off my US stay in Nevada for NABShow.
- The Workshop: I’ll be presenting a deep-dive Mobile Journalism session.
- The Conference: I’m also joining colleagues at the Broadcast Educators Association (BEA) to lead a session on the future of media textbooks and pedagogical innovation.
If you’re attending either event, let’s grab a coffee and talk about the shift toward the “News Creator” economy.
Let’s Work Together
I am currently booking multi-day campus visits, faculty intensives, and newsroom workshops for the May and June windows. I have already started coordinating with several university programs for intensive “boot camp” visits—if you’d like to get your program on the calendar, now is the time to reach out.
Why the extended stay?
My wife is an online producer for Axel Springer, and she will be working out of the LA bureau during this time. I’m lucky enough to tag along, which means I get to trade the Berlin winter for a Southern California spring while doing what I love most: helping journalists tell better stories.
Stay tuned to this adventure.
